International band

So on sunday I've got a big recording happening, with a international band, since they all live in different countries. Gonna be a interesting session, because we only have 6 hours to make 2 songs (possibly 3) in the tiny SSL studio. But I'm planning it all for 2 days now and it seems to get together pretty nicely. We'll just have to wait and see.

Got a nice crew working with me and they're looking for the Kashmir sound (a group from Denmark) so tonight there will be a lot of listening specially to one song "Surfing the Warm Industry".

Wish me luck and I'll let you know how it goes next week.

PS did you guys hear about the new software from ableton and logic i think it is? Bitwig. looks very square and fresh. Gonna be interesting to read some reviews.

was sitting working on the editing when i got this idea for the mix/production of the song.

Since I then only had an hour left of the studio i tried to fix something rough fast so I could get a taste of what it would sound like. We'll just let me know what you think.

and I am well aware of that it's still in a very bad condition, as I said it's very rough and still working on the edition of this.

I recently discovered that The Black Keys apparently released a collaboration album 2009, with many different Hiphop and RnB artists. The album's called BlakRoc and overseen by Damon Dash (former owner of Roc-A-Fella Records.
Some of the artists in the album are, Mos Def, Wu-tang Clan, RZA, Nicole Wray, Pharoahe Monch, Ludacris, Q-Tip from A Tribe Called Quest and Billy Danze of M.O.P.
Everything was recorded during 11 days at Studio G by co-producer Joel Hamilton, based in Brooklyn, NY. Hamilton worked with many different artists such as Justin Timberlake, Elvis Costello, Tom Waits, Talib Kweli.

So far I've only listened to 3 songs but loving it already. Gonna order the album and wait patiently for it by the post.

So I've been asked by the band to send them a rough mix today. So spent about 3 hours doing this today, ok I started a bit yesterday.

It is a very rough mix so I know I've gotta edit away some stuff.. and well there's a lot of editing needed on the drums so be nice, I'm working on it.

Besides this is only one of 3 songs...

Lazy Summer Days

So This sunday I'm spending the whole day at school recording a dutch band calling themselves "Lazy Summer Days", a dreamy pop rock band.

Since they remind me a lot of Bon Iver (specially one song) I've spent many hours researching and listening to his albums, and discoverd one of his collaboration songs, which is absolutely beutiful.

The recording went fine except for minor stepbacks in the begining. And i regret not spending more time on the mic placements for the drums. But as soon as i can ill post a rough mix so you'll get a taste of it. Over & out!

.. woke up today (way to early for my normal routine) walked to the bus and while the driver and his friend giggles like a couple of schoolgirls I got trapped in the door. Lovely.

Then I get to the unemployment office to talk to a job coach, a tall lady that decided to talk to me as if I was 5. Lovely. After 30 min of her positive chatting, that I probably won't get a job until late january, I got out, lit of a smoke and started walking in the rain when suddenly it starts to hail. Hurts..

Now I've got 2 hours to kill with some frenetic music - googling but all I feel like doing is lying in bed and not moving. Well time to go and spend 4 hours mixing a couple of tracks and keep on working on the 5.1 assignment.

A great band with great songs, met half the band in Berlin 2 years ago or so. That was one of the craziest parties so far.. but nuf' 'bout that.

This video is the making of the "Kingdom of Ghosts" from 2010.

Their song "out on a wire" is something I really would recommend to check out.

Autumn and Pitbull

As some of you, Mtv viewers and radio listeners, might have noticed they keep on playing Pitbull's songs everywhere and they are all in collaboration with other artists, mostly latin artists (of course) except for Usher probably, unless he also has some kind of latin background. You never know.

His early works in 2004 with the Ying Yang Twins was great, I still have "Shake" playing when I'm in the gym. The same for "Culo" but then he started basing every song on the standard monotone 1-2 beat.

Unfortunately he's not the only big artist that uses the same beat base for several songs, just listen carefully and you'll notice Miss Gaga, for example, doing the same with a couple of songs.

So Justice just released a new video from the forthcoming album that's being released next month.

Personally the I think the video is genius, and the song is a bit weaker then their earlier releases but it's mellow and has a nice, catchy melody.

Could be a hit but we'll see later. I'm curious about the new album since I love the previous one. Specially since it was one of the best concerts I've ever been too. Let's see how this one goes.

Perfect Day - twisted

So apperantly Lou Reed and Metallica are releasing an album together on 31 of October. Sorry all Metallica fans, but I do not like them, and I can't imagine what the album will sound like. A mix of the author of Perfect day together with the L.A heavy metal band with the famous danish trash metal drummer Lars Ulrich, could be an absolute disaster or maybe even something good.

Im very curious about the album and will definatly get it as soon as I can.
According to David Fricke from Rolling Stones it's more to the Berlin album style then any Metallica album. And the songs are all composed by Reed, based on a play called Lulu by the german playrighter Frank Wedekind.

Since Anton Cobrijn is responsible for the photographs once thing's for sure, it will be a beautiful album cover.

oh and ofcourse don't forger the engineer, Greg Fiedelman. He's done many different album from Thirteen tales from Urban Bohemia - The Dandy Warholes, Audioslave, Carlifonication, to U2, Johnny Cash and The (International) Noise Company.

When you've got it or maybe already listend to it, let me know what you think or expect out of it.

Eurovision 2011

right.. so since i'm sick and not working today I finally had a lot of time on my hands. So I checked a couple of the Eurovision songs that where competing this year.
Well Sweden is ofcourse like every year very popish and way too lollipop for me to ever like it.
Azerbaijan this years winner, is a very well produced popsong so no wonder it won. Even thou the video only excits to show what they look like and all you see is a odd couple sitting on either white och black blocks and singing about running scare and breathing.. well at least they're discussing usual problems. One of the biggest issues Ive got with this is his crazy-eyes and that they look more like brother and sister then a love couple.
Oh they're considers as a "rock due" according to wikipedia.
And now the proud moment for scandinava as in almost every Eurovision, the winning song was written (this year) by Stefan Örn of Iceland, Sandra Bjurman and Iain Farquharson from Sweden.
Ah they really do love this contest.
Well now let me check the other songs aswell..

After almost 2 years of searching for Bill Withers vinyl "Still Bill" i found it on recordstore day last month! Extremely happy since almost all my favourite songs are on there.
Unbelivable i almosr didnt walk in to Rush hour since I always thought it was just a house/ techno place. But I admitt I was wrong. Theyve got a lot of different things for reasnoble prices and good quality.

His new biography is a nice read with nice pictures aswell.

Since Rock'n'rolla is one of my favorite movies, not only for the story but also because the soundtrack fits absolutely perfectly in to the storyline and the scenes.

The song is from the Blue Mask Album from 1982, the first album from when he returned to RCA studios from Arista.

you can also hear the difference between his own style compared to the Velvet Underground style of music. His own way is much more stripped down and simplified. But even so, I love them both.

Sorry for being so absent the last ehm couple of months.. Damn! Shame on me!

Well i've been busy with school and getting to know my new hometown, yeah that's right, i might have told you it before but i live in the lovely Amsterdam now-a-days. And really lovin' it.

Oh yeah and of course i got hit by a s.u.v 3 days after my birthday this summer. Amazing, how clumsy i can be isn't it.

Well i got Plastic Beach from a good friend of mine this summer, and for the last week the record has been playing in my headphones at least 5 times a day.

The whole concept of the album is amazingly done good. I just hope that i can resemble any of the fx's that they use for my next mixing session. That is if the song i'm mixing fits to that kind of sound.

Sorry guys for not posting in a while, but i've been busy with school and all the moving around since i still don't have a nice long-term place, but working on it, and then i had an accident and got to hospital for a week, but i'm better now and back on track. So let's do this shall we?

a new guy from sweden is gettin out with a debut album "Shallow Grave", he calls himself "The tallest man on earth" but the real name is Kristian Matsson.

in this clip you'll see him playing a couple of songs acoustically at the NPR music desk. I've got to confess that i had to listen twice before liking it, but with the special voice it actually makes it better, and his guitar sounds beautiful.

a beautiful song from the russian musician and poet Victor Tsoy (Виктор Робертович Цой). He's definatly a legend in the Russian rock music scene. Unfortunately he died in a car-accident 1990 in Tukums right outside of Latvia and there is still a lot of discussion if it actually was an accident or not. I guess we'll never find out. But I choose to think that it's an accident.

These three 21year olds are a band from Ireland, they've toured with The Zutons and Artic Monkeys as a part of The Little Flames but decided to go solo as The Rascals. And the singer isn't just anyone, he's Miles Kane. One part of The Last Shadow Puppets with Artic Monkeys singer Alex Turner.

..unfortunately the band is split up now, Kane is staring a solo career and i'm sure whatever he writes it's gonna be good.

This tuesday 22th sep, The Rascals' gonna play at The Dubliner here in Stockholm. It's free and lot's of fun. Be there I know I will ;)

Got back from my Berlin-Amsterdam trip a week ago and had the best time ever!

There's a bar in Berlin called White Trash Fast Food, as the name says, you can eat there and see some live music or go downstairs to the club.

Cheap Freaks were playing the day we got there, and with them where their friends from Humanzi and a couple of the guys are also in The Things.

sorry for a very late entry. I've had a lot of things to do and I've been kind of lazy too.

On monday 23th mars me and a friend went to see mr. Dylan playing in Globen. Maybe I hade some high expectations or he's just lost the joy of playing/singing, but I've got to say that I was pretty dissapointed.

after a quick introduction he came on stage slowly and started playing, not saying a word. during the whole preformance there were no interaction with the audience at all.

some may like that, but I thought he'd at least say hi. You've got to have some manners, right?

But the songs were good, maybe not the way he changed his old classics.. sorry but it could have been better..

Sébastian Tellier - Popcirkus

got to the concert* about 20 min late but didn't miss out on much. Surprisingly all in the audience were about 25+ and mostely in couples. All of them were typical "söder folk" (southern people) dressed according to the style (big black glasses, second hand/ vintage clothes and old looking shoes, all of it preferably in dark colours).

The show opend up with Laleh and went on with a short intervju with mr. Tellier some more music with Laleh, Christian Waltz, some short intervjues with all the guests and other stuff. After the show was over, and an hour break the concert started with Sébastian Tellier.

The concert was wonderful, Tellier gives his all on stage, talkes about himself, cracks some jokes, and really just acts out on stage. It's hard to miss his passion for the music, He even gave us a little taste of his verison on the first hit from Kyle Minouge -Lucky (full with a drunk-like voice singing it all false but with a lot of humor).

He gets away with it all. Even with putting his hand inside the pants (which he did a lot of times). Maybe that is just because he's so sexuall and the fact that the album is called Sexuality. Much was explaind during his little speech about his bisexuall side.

Overall a very charismatic, open artist with strong passion for performing and music.

Just got back home from the Oasis concert at Globen here in Stockholm. Sure the acustics isn't the best there but it was great anyway.

The Ceasars (Palace) started the show with a couple of songs, and ended with their two major hits, Yerk it out and Punk Rocker. And only then, it looked like people kind of rememberd who they where..

After a while Oasis came, and so did the rest of the crowd (half were 30- something post rockers and the other half 16- something boys and girls trying to look cool).

at the end they played the two songs I've always wanted to hear live; Wonderwall (obviously) and Don't Look Back In Anger.

For me it was the first time I even heard the new album (I'm on the budget) and I absolutely love it, specially Falling Down.

I'm getting the album tomorrow ;)

The vinyl sale at Mosebacke...

well I finally got some time after work to go to the little store at Hökens gatan. the store seems very small at first but the vinyl section is pretty big. you can ask about anything and the staff will help you, they're really nice (even the one that looks a little evil).

I'm really thrilled about the Thin Lizzy even though there's just one out of 2 vinyl's in it. But side 2 is the one I wanted, with "Dancing in the Moonlight" ( with John Earle on sax) and "Still in love with you" (a favourite).

and for all lation-fans out there: Calle Real is playing at Debaser Medis, 19th December. Be there, I will ;)

my brother was visiting for a couple of days, and while we were running to the subway I noticed a new vinyl-store and they 20-50% sale! so if I'll find time I'll go for a visit tomorrow, hoping to find some really good stuff. otherwise the best vinyl-store here must be, Mickes skivor & serier or Record hunter (one of the guy's cute too).

And I got the my new camera today, so far it's pretty good. hopefully I'l learn all the strange settings, it's a little bit complex for me but i'll figure it out sooner or later.

Finally i'm getting started on this blogg.. and what's a better start than an introduction;

well... i'm a musicjunkie, collecting vinyls and spending money on unecessary stuff like goofy toys for my friends and my dog. i guess that's a good description of me.
